Travel Tips 101:
Travel Packages
Are they worth it?
There a wide variety of choices for you to make when deciding
"how" to take your vacation. By all means, visit at least one travel
agency, but preferably at least two or three. Shop around. Find someone you are
comfortable with, who is willing to take the time to help you decide what you
want and what you can afford.
One of your vacation options is choosing a package. They come in
a variety of choices. They may include all or part of your trip. Airfare,
accommodations, rental car and/or transfers, attractions and/or sightseeing,
meals, sporting events, such as NASCAR races, etc. Are they right for you? But
more importantly, are they right for your destination?
In the case of Orlando, you can probably get a better deal
putting your trip together yourself. Look out for those per person charges. Most
hotels in Orlando charge by the room, not by the person. Look at all the
components is the package you are considering and then price each item separately. Don't
forget to include taxes and surcharges. Which is your better value?
Sport's Packages
Sport packages can be a savings value, if you know what you are
buying. For special events, such as the Super Bowl, World Series, or the Daytona
500, often the only way to get tickets is part of a package. But know who you
are buying from. Are they licensed, reputable, and what is included? Are you
going to be escorted? By whom? To what and where?
Caution: Cancellation penalties
Most packages contain cancellation penalties of some sort. Know
your deadlines and deposit dates. If miss the deadline for your final payment,
often your deposit is non-refundable. Is trip cancellation insurance included in
your package? If there is chance, no matter how slim, that you may have to
cancel or postpone your trip, get the trip protection insurance. It is well
worth the cost. The small premium is nothing compared to losing the entire
payment you've made on your trip.
